OFFICERS uncovered hundreds of cannisters of a popular party-substance known as laughing gas when they searched the boot of a car, a court heard.
Magistrates were told more than 400 cannisters of nitrous oxide were discovered when a car driven by Rhys Kyesimira was stopped by officers in Cowdray Avenue, Colchester.
Kyesimira, 20, and his passenger Paul Ola, 20, were charged with possession of a psychoactive substance with intent to supply.
The pair entered no pleas to the charges when they appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court.
However, Kyesimira admitted one additional charge of possession of cannabis.
Ashley Petchey, prosecuting, told the court: “Officers were driving down Cowdray Avenue, Colchester, when they observed a motor vehicle straddling the lanes.”
He said they stopped the car and found cannabis and 19 boxes of chargers.
Recreational users of nitrous oxide inhale the substance through a balloon to induce feelings of euphoria.
Kyesimira and Ola were released on unconditional bail until a plea and trial preparation hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on June 19.
