IN the matter of the discussions about whether to have a crazy golf course and splash park in Castle Park, as far as the crazy golf is concerned I can see this being feasible without impacting too much on the park’s ambiance.

But I am not too sure about the splash park considering one already exists at the new lake that has formed at East Gates railway crossing.

However, the bid to entice Channel 4 to set up a media hub in Colchester can only enhance the opportunity to put it on the map by encouraging them to also make programmes in and around the town.

One such programme which sprung to mind would involve Bear Grylls and a couple of so called “celebs” from some obscure reality show.

The working title could be something like Car Trek - the Final Front Tyre.

The pilot show would see Bear Grylls and his cohorts setting up a base camp in the empty allocated parking spaces at the rear of the premises in Rouse Way.

From here their objective would be to attempt to reach Fenwick Drive staying entirely within the confines of the pavement.

Although this would involve in places having to climb onto and walk over all the cars parked by both residents and people who dump them there and walk into town.

First to reach Fenwick Drive wins but straying into the road would incur penalty points.

The only possible problem could be that, before filming started, the enforcement officers employed by the parking management firm may issue penalty notices and the cars disappear.

However, having thought about it they are never seen around there now so are unlikely to change the habits of a lifetime.

If the pilot was successful then a series could be produced using other roads in Colchester with a similar parking ethos.

However, since there are so many, the TV company may reject the idea as it would not want to commit to something that could run longer than the Archers.
