A FED up resident super glued his hand to a Thurrock Council desk during a visit to Civic Offices.

The 60-year-old man had to be helped out of the sticky situation by firefighters who appealed to council staff for nail varnish remover so they could dissolve the adhesive.

The man, a private landlord, had been visiting the council headquarters in New Road, Grays on Wednesday afternoon.

He has been in a dispute with his tenant over rent but was advised that it was not a council housing matter.

One fire crew from Grays arrived to help the man at 4.40pm.

Tom Wass, leading firefighter at Grays, who attended the incident, said: "We were called to release a man who had super glued his hand to a desk.

"The man is believed to have been a disgruntled customer.

"We had a think about it and thought the best way to get him free was to use a solvent so we borrowed some nail varnish remover from the office staff and used it to dissolve the glue and free him."

The man was separated from the council furniture within 20 minutes of firefighters arriving.

An Ambulance was called but the man declined treatment.

A spokesman for Thurrock Council said: "The gentleman concerned is a private landlord whose tenant was in arrears with rent. This should be a matter between the two of them.

"It is not a council housing issue. This was explained to the man.

"However, the council is meeting with the tenant today to see if a way forward can be found.

"Actions such as those taken on Wednesday can cause serious health and legal problems and Thurrock Council would like to thank the Essex Fire and Rescue Service for its action securing the man’s release."
