THAMES Ambulance Service celebrated a £3million investment with the launch of six new ambulances.
The keys were handed over to the new fleet of vehicles by Tory MP for Castle Point, Rebecca Harris.
David Jones, deputy director of operations at the private ambulance firm, said: “This should ensure a continuing successful and improving service for local people.”
The service began in 1996 with Bill Dudbridge and John Weavers storing just one ambulance in veteran councillor Ray Howard’s farmyard.
Today the firm, based on Canvey’s Charfleets Industrial Estate, has 75 ambulances and employs 200 people.
Mrs Harris said: “They have launched these new wonderful ambulances and patients are saying they are a much more comfortable ride.
“It’s fantastic. This all started with one ambulance in Ray Howard’s farmyard and now they have contracts across the eastern region and London.”
