TWO teenage girls had to be winched to safety by a helicopter after being cut off from the tide.
Southend Coastguard, Burnham RNLI, Essex Police and the RAF helicopter were launched to search for two 13-year-old girls who had become cut off from the tide on Rushley Island in the River Roach.
The search was launched just before 6.30pm yesterday and after being found were lifted to safety with units at Havengore Bridge.
The girls were checked over by paramedics before returning home.
Later that evening at about 11.40pm Southend Coastguard, Southend RNLI, Essex Police and the ambulance service carried out a search for a missing suicidal man in Westcliff.
He was found safe and well at 1.30am.
