A DOG with an infected tumour has been put down after being dumped in a Pitsea street.

The chocolate labrador's ulcerated tumour was so sore he could not even sit down.

The dog was discovered outside a shop in High Road at 9.30am on Saturday, June 27, but it is not yet known how long he had been there.

He had a very large tumour on his bum, as well as a testicular lump, and was clearly in agonising pain.

A Basildon Council dog warden was called and took the labrador for treatment at a nearby vets, who decided the kindest thing to do was to put him to sleep to end further suffering.

The RSPCA and Basildon Council are appealing for information.

Phil Easteal, Basildon Council's manager responsible for animal control, said: “It’s deplorable that the owner did not seek treatment earlier and decided to turn their dog out onto the street in the condition he was in. There is plenty of help available to dog owners, and dumping a dog is not acceptable.”

RSPCA inspector, Marie Hammerton, added: “This has got to be one of the worst tumours that I have ever seen. It is a wonder he could walk, let alone sit.

“This poor dog must have been in such pain, and who knows how long he had been left to just suffer like that. "

“We urge anyone with any information about who owned this dog, and how he came to be left on his own to suffer in this way, to call us on 0300 123 8018.”
