DISCUSSIONS are ongoing to redevelop Hadleigh town centre with a private meeting to be held this week.

Behind-closed-doors discussions about the future of the development are ongoing between the Hadleigh Members Liaison Group and developer Hollybrook.

Plans to revamp the town centre with 65 apartments, a new library and tree-lined square were revealed earlier this month but it’s unclear how long it will take for work to take place.

Simon Hart, chairman of the Hadleigh Members Liaison Group, said: “We are still having meetings to discuss a way forward.

“We are waiting for Hollybrook, who are now our chosen developer to come to us with more plans.

“The ball is now rolling and we’ve got to wait for them to do more work and come backwith a proposal that we can then take to public consultation.

“All the information we’ve had on previous plans they have been told and we’ve gone to them with all the feedback we’ve been getting.

“The previous consultation was discussed and we told them about it and that was part of the selection process and they used it to inform their proposals.

“We have released details very early but now it is a case of waiting for Hollybrook to come back with more work.”

With negotiations underway to demolish the Crown pub, hoardings around the derelict pub have been moved to create a six space car park and drop off point for visitors to the town.

Mr Hart added: “With the car park at the Crown pub we’ve moved the hoarding back to create a drop off car park.

“The hoardings are nice, as far as hoardings go but while we are waiting for the new development to go ahead it was encroaching on the street scene, so we’ve moved it back. It’s improved the aspect of Hadleigh.”
