HITS like There Goes My Baby and Save the Last Dance for Me can be heard in a forthcoming concert by soul legends the Drifters.

They’ve had many a line-up change since their creation 60 years ago – more than 65 vocalists, including icons such as Clyde McPhatter, Ben E King and Johnny Moore.

The current line up will be at the Cliffs Pavilion, Westcliff, on Thursday, September 10 as part of their UK tour.

The Drifters have sold more than 214 million singles and 114 million albums worldwide. They were inducted into the Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 in recognition of their global success spanning almost six decades.

Since manager Faye Treadwell brought the group to the UK in the early Seventies, they have always included British members in the lineup.

When the Drifters performed at the White House in 1993 for President Bill Clinton, the line-up included three British members and one American – Johnny Moore. In 2009 the Drifters shared the bill on a UK tour with Gloria Gaynor.

In the same year, the current line-up realigned the brand with their former recording label, Atlantic Records, with the album Five Decades and Moore, a tribute to the late, great JohnnyMoore one of the most popular Drifters with UK fans. He joined in 1955 and stayed for 21 years, before he died in 1998.

Expect to hear songs from that album and more from the colossal back catalogue.
