The 82-year old man who was hit by a double decker bus two weeks ago in Tilbury has died in hospital.

Sadly, he passed away yesterday after suffering serious injuries in the collision, including a reported head injury.

The collision, which happened in Civic Square shortly after 4.20pm on Thursday August 20, saw a double decker bus hit the elderly pedestrian, who was from Tilbury.

Despite being rushed by air ambulance to the Royal London Hospital, he was reported to be in a deteriorating condition thereafter.

Police arrested a 48-year-old bus driver from Rochester the day after the collision on suspicion of careless driving.

The man is currently on bail pending further police enquiries in relation to this matter and is due to report back to officers on Friday, November 20.

Bus company Ensign also suspended the driver from employment, whilst investigations are going.

A statement Ensign released last week said: "“We are all deeply shocked at the incident and our thoughts do go to the gentleman’s family. We have never had any incident like this before so it’s quite shocking for us and we are working closely with police on their investigations.

"CCTV of the incident was obtained from the bus which the police are using to help them in their investigations. Obviously our thoughts go out to the family at this deeply distressing time."

Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision.
