PARALYMPIC gold medallist Danny Crates is set to start a 5km fun run at DP World London Gateway in September.

The event has been organised to raise money in aid of Little Havens Hospice.

Born in Orsett, Danny is an 800m specialist and a former Paralympic world record holder. He won gold medals in a number of international competitions, including at the 2004 Paralympic Games, European Championships and World Championships.

He is encouraging everyone and anyone to dust off their running shoes and take part in the charity run on Sunday, September 20, which begins at 10.30am from No.1 London Gateway in Stanford-le-Hope.

Participants will be taken on a route around the Logistics Park, adjacent to Britain’s newest deep-sea container terminal, with its huge quay cranes and state-of-the-art technology.

Danny Crates said: “I am really looking forward to starting the DP World London Gateway Fun Run. This is a great opportunity for local people of all ages to take part in a fun, healthy activity while raising vital funds for a very worthy cause.”

Tanya King, Corporate Fundraiser at Havens Hospices, said: “We are extremely grateful to the staff at DP World London Gateway Port and Logistics Park for organising this fun run event in aid of Little Havens Hospice.”
