AN ACID attack at a train station has left five teenagers injured, with one losing his sight. 

British Transport Police were called to South Ockendon railway station at 12.42am on Sunday, following the assault, but the perpetrators made a getaway by train.

The five teenagers were taken to Basildon Hospital, three were discharged after receiving treatment.

The other two were transferred to Broomfield Hospital, where they were treated for serious burns to their faces and hands.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “We have launched an investigation into the incident and are viewing CCTV and speaking to witnesses.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify the people responsible, the nature of the substance and determine the circumstance behind the assault.
