A NEW life-saving ambulance station was opened by Southend’s mayor and other dignitaries.

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) welcomed staff from across Essex to the grand opening of the new station in Aviation Way, Southend.

The new station was officially opened by Southend mayor Judith McMahon and the Lord Lieutenant of Essex Lord Petre.

Mrs McMahon said: “The visit was so informative and it is clear to see the new facilities here will not only benefit the staff who use it but also the public.”

“I’m particularly impressed with the system in place that ensures every ambulance is fully stocked after a shift resulting in a smooth handover for the next crew.”

EEAST chief executive Robert Morton said: “This should be a proud day for the staff of south-east Essex; it truly is a fantastic station. I want to thank everyone who has been involved in making this day happen.”

“This new station will not only be an asset to the staff who use its modern facilities, but also to the public who will be treated more quickly and effectively.”

Lord Petre said: “I’m very impressed with the new station here in Southend, all the staff I met were extremely friendly and the facilities were spotless.”
