A CANVEY school gave hundreds of youngsters a taste of life at secondary school with an array of taster sessions.

Cornelius Vermuyden School, in Dinant Avenue, opened its doors on Saturday.

An array of science, history, sport and musical activities were put on by the school.

It saw the school’s string orchestra treat visitors to a special performance.

Science teachers were on hand to demonstrate rocket firing in the school’s playing field.

Youngsters were able to fly high as the school’s PE department put on a trampolining session.

Visitors were also granted exclusive access to Cornelius Vermuyden’s “immersive room” which is capable of transforming itself into a range of different environments.

Carol Skewes, headteacher at the school, said: “At Cornelius Vermuyden, we are extremely proud to showcase the achievements of our students and staff, demonstrating our purposeful, challenging and supportive learning environment.”
