A WOMAN had to be cut out of her car after becoming trapped when trying to drive to the hospital after a fall. 

The incident happened last night, just before 10pm, on Brook Road in Rayleigh

A spokesman for the fire service said: "Firefighters were called to help a woman who had become trapped in her car. The women had a fall at home, and had attempted to drive herself to the hospital but on her way there she had to pull over and call 999 as she was unable to continue driving.

"Our crews worked with paramedics to rescue the woman by cutting the roof off her car and lifting her out on a spinal board. She was left in the care of the Ambulance Service."

An ambulance spokesman said: “We got a call yesterday at 8.35pm to reports of a woman in her 40s with a report of back pain.

“We sent an ambulance crew and two rapid response vehicles. The patient was extracated out of the vehicle by the fire services and treated for back pain and complained of a pelvic injury.

She was taken to Southend Hospital in a stable condition.”

Firefighters moved the car to a safe position and left the incident at 11.41pm
