A FAMILY came together to join in celebrations with Edith Leriche as she celebrated her 100th birthday.
Mrs Leriche turned 100 yesterday and was visited in her nursing home, Evelyn May House, Florence Way, Laindon, by her nieces and nephews to mark the special occasion and they celebrated with cake and balloons.
Niece Helen Ackary, who lives in South Woodham Ferrers, said: “Edith was in the Women’s RAF throughout the war. She even stayed on a bit after to look after the boys when they were home.
“We presented her with a picture of her in her uniform and her face just lit up. She said it was fantastic.
“It was an emotional moment when she opened her card from the Queen. She was very proud.”
