A motorcyclist who was caught driving at 108mph on a road in Basildon has been disqualified from driving for six months.

Benjamin Heard, of The Fremnells, Basildon, pleaded guilty to exceeding a 40mph speed limit at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, February 21.

Heard, 24, was disqualified from driving, fined £250 and was ordered to pay court costs of £90 and a £30 victim surcharge.

At around 10.30pm on Saturday, May 28, 2016, he was caught speeding along Cranes Farm Road by a police officer holding a handheld speeding device.

Essex Police casualty reduction manager, Adam Pipe, said: "Heard was given an instant disqualification for travelling at such dangerous and irresponsible speeds along a well-used road.

"This road has plenty of signs reminding motorists of the speed limit and Heard was riding a new Yamaha motorbike that he was unfamiliar with.

"There is no place for irresponsible high speed driving in Essex and the courts will deal with you with fines and instant driving disqualifications, affecting both your home and work lives.”
