The daughter of a man who had been stabbed told a court how she stepped in between her father and the man accused of trying to kill him.

Huseyin Abuzet, 37, is standing trial for attempted murder following an incident outside his home in Cumberland Road, Chafford Hundred, on August 27, 2017.

Giving evidence at Basildon Crown Court yesterday, witness Jade Newman-James, 22, told the court how her father, William James, had arrived at the property and was calling for her to come outside.

She said when she went out of the front door, she saw he was bleeding. She said: “I heard my dad outside shouting; he was calling my name.

“I got dressed and came downstairs and ran out the front door into the road.

“I saw my father and Huseyin Abuzet face-to-face.

“I ran in between them and pushed them apart.

“My dad had blood on his white shirt at the front and the blood was seeping through.

“I told him he needed to call an ambulance.”

Jade ran inside to call for an ambulance while Abuzet left in a BMW, which Jade says was her “courtesy car.”

The court heard how Abuzet had formed a relationship with Jade’s mother - William James’s former partner.

Jade also told the court how her dad was “upset” with her as she was “socialising with Huseyin Abuzet” after he found out they had both been at the same event.

Although, she insisted in court that her dad had never made threatening remarks to her which were aimed at Abuzet.

Following the incident on Sunday, August 27, Jade said that her dad was “angry at the fact he got stabbed” but then grew concerned for his well-being and asked Jade to call him ambulance straight away.

Abuzet denies the charge of attempted murder.
