LONDON Marathon volunteers are set to travel to the big event in style this weekend.
Thanks to Nigel Pointer, a Pitsea Running Club member from Benfleet, more than 150 helpers will board a special volunteer train, run by c2c, departing Shoeburyness at 6.37am on Sunday.
Nigel said: “The reality is that we have managed to pull runners from the whole area together, regardless of which athletics club they are with.
“We’re giving back something that is unique and the fact that c2c are giving the volunteers their own train makes it really special.”
Shoebury depot manager Jon Dear said: “I was speaking with my wife, who runs for Southend Flyers, about c2c running a train for all the helpers. After speaking with Nigel and our train planners, they kindly agreed that we could have a train.”
