Four people have been arrested after a vehicle failed to stop for police in Southend on Sunday.

The car collided with a shopfront on Southchurch Road just before 3pm.

The four occupants of the vehicle, a man and a woman aged in their 20s, a man aged in his 30s and a man aged in his 40s, were all arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs and theft of a motor vehicle.

The man aged in his 30s, who had initially decamped from the vehicle but was later arrested by officers, was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife and being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug.

The woman in the vehicle and the man aged in his 40s were also arrested on suspicion of concerned in the supply of controlled drug.

The man in his 20s, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of failing to stop for a police officer, dangerous driving, driving without a license, being unfit to drive through drink or drugs, driving without insurance, concerned in supplying a controlled drug.

All four currently remain in custody.
