Neighbours reported hearing screaming after the incident, which took place in Adelaide Gardens, Benfleet, on Sunday evening.

One man, who has asked to remain anonymous, said: “It all started kicking off when we heard screaming and shouting at about 9.30pm.

“All of a sudden, we heard a man shouting ‘I can’t believe you’ve done this to me - it hurts, it hurts’ at which point I assumed one of their dogs had bitten him or something.

“We didn’t really think much of it at the time because there is always things kicking off at that house.

“We went to bed at about 10.30pm and that’s when the whole street was lit up with blue flashing lights - it was complete mayhem.

“Police cars and ambulances were in the street and it was clear something more serious than usual had happened.

“There were police officers with Tasers on scene as well as multiple ambulances.

“Police told us someone had been arrested for stabbing a man near that house.”

Residents reported police officers were going door-to-door carrying out enquiries.

The resident added: “We’ve just had enough now. We are looking at moving because it’s just too much. We have tried telling the council and the police that it is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt at that house but nothing has been done.

“So now we want to move away from the area because we can’t live like this.”

Essex Police confirmed they were called to reports of a man assaulted in the St Mary’s Drive area of Benfleet at around 10pm on Sunday, June 17. The victim had suffered injuries to his arm.
