HACKERS targeted a school in a “malicious” cyber attack which has seen online lessons for children self-isolating scrapped.

The FitzWimarc School in Hockley Road, Rayleigh has confirmed its systems came under attack this week.

On the school’s website, it states that “there are ongoing server issues”and that “live” lessons, which had been taking place for pupils who needed to self-isolate, have been suspended.

Parents were informed via email earlier this week.

An announcement on the school website said: “We are suspending our published remote learning plans and there will be no live lessons until further notice.

“Alternative work will be set for students working from home through the website until the issue is resolved.

“We look to restore service as soon as possible.

“We aim to keep you updated as soon as we have more information

“Thank you very much for all the ongoing support.”

The school has confirmed that no lessons in person were impacted by the cyber attack and work has been provided online for those who are not able to attend the school in person.

Work was provided for English, maths and science for yesterday and today for all year groups

Robert Harris, headteacher of the FitzWimarc School, said the systems were being restored.

He said: “We have notified all parents we have been the victim of a malicious cyber attack.

“Our IT provider is now restoring our systems.

“Lessons in school will continue as normal.

“We are working to restore our live lesson capability for those at home and work is being set for all students.”
