Songs are Ticket to Ride into Railway

CLIMB aboard for a magical mystery tour at the Railway on Sunday as musicians at the Southend pub get ready to pay tribute to the fab four at their annual Beatles convention.

The event will see bands and solo artists, fans and musicians give their own interpretations and renditions of Beatles songs, from lesser-known gems to well-loved hits.

The afternoon and evening event has artists – including pub landlord and lady Dave and Fi Dulake, Red Sails, Peter Basey and Simon Cambell from lively soul act the Baseys, rockabilly man Steve Hooker, Stefan Redgrave and Rosie Barrett – lined up to play their own versions of songs, so it should see some lovingly-crafted adaptations.

The event, at the pub in Clifftown Road, launched four years ago and was such a success, the pub has carried it on ever since.

Among the musicians taking part are Steve Hooker, who will put his rockabillyblues and soul spin on numbers including I Wanne Be You Man, Peter Basey, who will play Lady Madonna "because it’s a great piano- based song", and Tom Burgess who "picks songs and change them at the last minute!"
