Come and try singing in a choir
HAVE you always wanted to have a go at harmony singing, but never quite had the confidence to try?
The Orpheus Singers, a women-only choir, may be able to help, as they invite singers to an open repetoire workshop day for prospective new members.
The choir and newcomers will split into groups to learn harmony parts, before bringing it all together to make sweet music.
Vice-chairman Margaret Tickle says it’s a relaxed way for prospective members to meet the choir and find out how they work and have some vocal fun.
She adds: “As a choir, we’re going to learn five new pieces, so our existing members don’t know them. It means anyone who comes along won’t be at a disadvantage. We’ll have a bit of a warm up with our musical director, split into sections to all learn our parts, have a break for tea and coffee, then get together and singing the songs as a choir. It’s a fun day.”
The choice is for singers of all abilities and levels of experience – from music teachers to others, who can’t read music.
Margaret adds: “It’s for absolutely all levels. It’s an uplifting thing to do.
“Joining a choir can be quite daunting, but this is a much easier way of easing your way into it – and you could always bring a friend.”
The event is on Saturday January 19, between 10am and 4pm at Hadleigh Methodist Church, in Chapel Lane, Hadleigh and costs £5. For details and to to book a place, call Margaret Tickle on 07817 446661.
