CHASE Lane Primary School’s young footballers finished fifth in the country after doing themselves and their region proud at the npower Cup finals.

Representing Colchester United, after winning the regional event, they travelled to Chippenham, in the West Country, to do battle with teams including Coventry City, Walsall, Bristol City, Swindon Town and Leyton Orient.

They only lost one game throughout the whole day – a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Peterborough United.

However, the Dovercourt school narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals.

With a trip to Wembley Stadium at stake, the competition was fierce and Chase Lane showed they could compete at a national level.
