HARWICH Amateur Boxing Club head coach Martin Webb was disappointed for George Groves.

Groves lost his super-middleweight IBF and WBA title challenge when he was floored by 36-year-old Carl Froch in the eighth round at Wembley on Saturday.

The 26-year-old was under the supervision of Webb when he was the ABA team manager that looked after him on tough international tours as a teenager.

Webb, who had backed Groves to win ahead of the bout, said: “Anything can happen in boxing.

“I thought George was just sneaking ahead and about to take control of the fight when he was knocked out.

“But you shouldn’t underestimate Froch, he is a true warrior.

“I am disappointed for George.

“But he is only 26 and is going to come back stronger from this.

“He has plenty of time and lots of skill and power.

“I am sure there will be other title fights for him.”
