DOVERCOURT’S bowlers are celebrating two eye-catching wins.

They won two finals on the same day, starting with a dramatic 68-67 success against Mersea Island, in the Frank Greenaway Trophy.

Results: Singles: Phil Armstrong lost by seven shots. Pairs: Richard Buckland and Dick Bloom won by six shots. Triples: David Payne, Andy Todd and Sid Ellmer lost by three shots. Fours: Karl Brooks, Graham Mond, Brian Hopkins and Mark Hale won by five shots.

Dovercourt then went on to the Essex Group One Double Fours final, against Thorpe.

The rink skipped by Richard Buckland, playing with Andy Todd, Graham Mond and David Payne, took the lead from the start and won by 11 shots.

Phil Armstrong’s rink – Karl Brooks, Brian Hopkins and Mark Hale – trailed early on but came from behind to win by three shots.

Dovercourt were so supreme that Thorpe conceded the match after the 18th end, with the final score being 41-13.
