HARWICH and Dovercourt Golf Club’s ladies’ section held their new captain’s drive -in.

Despite the dull, drizzly weather, some of the ladies went out to play a nine-hole singles stableford competition.

It was won by Viv Dale who, in the awful conditions, scored an excellent 18 points, playing to her handicap.

New captain Linda Burrows and outgoing captain Chris Bradford then played the traditional putting out on the last green, before the new captain drove off on the first tee.

All the ladies present had brought markers, to start the new charity year off, and placed them on the first fairway.

Nearest the drive was vice-captain Georgina Grout and once inside prizes were presented to her and competition winner Dale.

Meanwhile, the 2014 Points Trophy was won by Burrows, with the joint runners-up being Bradford and Carol Wrayton and the 2014 best four medals competition was won by Dale with +8.

In second was Burrows and third Kate Fender.

Several of the club members have been very busy during the last week helping plant out the new bank on the seventh tee, under supervision.

Undoubtedly this will enhance the area in the coming years and, along with other work carried out by the green staff, will improve the course for members and visitors alike.

Despite the weather, the course is in excellent condition and remains open most days.
