HARWICH Runners chairman Peter Gooding praised the dedication of his club’s members after a strong finish in the 53-12 Cross-Country League.
They finished third overall after another excellent performance – finishing second – in the last race at Hadleigh.
Their lofty position looked unlikely earlier in the season, after they sat bottom and faced relegation following the first race in October.
“I was very pleased to end up in third place,” said a delighted Gooding.
“It was quite a fightback, achieved by finishing second both on Sunday and at the Harwich race in December.
“Also, despite the weather, there were more runners from Harwich taking part in Sunday’s race than any other club.
“During the five races we had a total of 68 members compete in at least one race.
“I doubt any other club can claim that level of dedication from its members.”
