HARWICH 114
BRANTHAM 86
Mixed triples friendly
OTHER than one rink, this was a very close match.
The triple skipped by Mike Ryan, playing with Dianna Jacobs and Pat Mitchell, took advantage of a ten-shot lead to win by 18.
First-time skip Carol Harrington, aided by Chris Barker and Carol Sutton, was not fazed by the extra responsibility, winning by six shots.
In a high-scoring game, Sandy Mooney, skipping Colleen Johnson and Michael Eyes, won by four shots.
Ladies’ captain Brenda Vernaven, helped by Martin Dick and John Welch, led by nine shots with eight ends remaining.
They could not contain Brantham’s comeback, as the visitors scored 13 shots in the next six ends.
However, Vernaven steadied the ship and took the last two ends to win by just one shot.
Keith Forsyth, playing with Jim Gerbi and Flora Dick, were in trouble with two ends to go but picked up six shots to gain a well-earned draw.
At 11-1 up, the triple skipped by Valda Burgess, with Ginny Eyes and David Hunter, should have had the game sewn up.
However, they failed to score in the last six ends to be defeated by one shot.
