THREE Harwich boxers were in action at a show in Colchester.

Leading the way was former Amateur Boxing Association Championship quarter-finalist Ryan Frost, against Shaun Attrell, from the Hastings Westhill Club.

Light welterweight Frost gave a strong performance, with his southpaw counter-punching shading the opening session.

The muscular Attrell tried to close Frost down in the second, but the Harwich boxer was having none of it and his crisp counter-punching was the telling factor.

Little separated the two in the last of the three-minute rounds.

However, Frost’s earlier successes saw him adjudged a split points winner.

Rio Gordon, 14, was looking for his second win in as many contests, this time facing the challenge of host club Colchester ABC’s Josh Blackman.

A fired-up Blackman clearly won the first round, amid a great atmosphere, with the crowd on their feet cheering.

However, after stern words from Gordon’s coach during the interval, the Harwich boxer responded with purposeful hook punches, finding their mark throughout the next round.

The last round proved a ding-dong battle, with fortunes swaying each way.

After three exciting rounds, Gordon retained his unbeaten record by way of another split points win for the Harwich club.

Another Harwich boxer had a split decision.

However, this time it ended in defeat for 12-year-old Jack Farrow.

With just 48 hours notice of this contest, he gave a solid account of himself against Hastings Westhill’s Liam Holden before going down to the closest of points decisions.
