HARWICH and Dovercourt Rugby Club’s under-11s (pictured right) hosted a three-way fixture with Brightlingsea and Colchester.

They faced Brightlingsea first and, straight from the kick-off, looked to move the ball through hands.

Captain Ioan Woodward soon scored the first of his four tries.

And the tries kept coming for Harwich, through William Pearce, Regan Constable (two) and Harry Woodley (two).

Matthew McCue was at the centre of lots of their play, excellent in attack and defence and unlucky not to get a try.

Throughout the team, players were communicating and making great contributions.

Sam Parker and Sam Messenger led the defensive effort, backed up by Harry Pitham, Josh Reason, Joe Sewell and Nathan McClelland-Scott.

Colchester, fresh from beating a much-improved Brightlingsea 3-0, were looking strong and confident.

However, Harwich were not ready to lose their unbeaten record and were up for the challenge.

Woodward again opened the scoring, managing to slip a couple of tackles and find space, running in his first of four tries.

Pearce and McCue, along with Constable and Sewell, all made good ground, forcing Colchester back towards their own line.

Colchester scored a deserved try to keep up the pressure but Reason, McClelland-Scott, Messenger and Pitham all backed up their strong performances from the first match and Woodley got the final try for Harwich to end the game 5-1.

Parker was player-of-the-day after two great matches defensively and with the ball.
