HARWICH and Dovercourt Rugby Club’s under-11s hosted Clacton for the second time this season and were made to work hard for their two wins.

Clacton started game one as they meant to go on, tackling and rucking well and making several strong individual runs.

Harwich (pictured) dealt with their runners well, though, with Joshua Reason, Sam Messenger, Joe Sewell and Nathan McClelland-Scott making sure there was no way through.

Regan Constable opened the scoring for Harwich, followed by further tries from Matthew McCue and captain-for-the-day Sam Parker.

In match two, Harwich started passing the ball more, with Pitham, Pearce, Woodley, Messenger and Parker all making good runs and looking to move the ball through the hands.

Clacton were still making their tackles and rucking hard, but Harwich were now using the width of the pitch and space to great effect.

Ioan Woodward led the Harwich defensive effort and put in a number of big tackles.

He was backed up by the rest of the team in stopping Clacton getting on the scoresheet.

Tries from Constable (3), Woodward (2), Sewell, McCue and a final one grounded simultaneously by Pearce and Woodley saw Harwich complete a good win and performance.

Every player was outstanding but several had probably their best games of the season, notably Reason, Sewell and parents’ player of the day McClelland-Scott.
