HARWICH Runners were well represented at the Colchester Castle Parkrun.

Nine Harwich members took part and Peter Clarke brought the first black and white vest home, clocking 22 minutes and 16 seconds for a respectable 64th overall.

Just 27 seconds behind was team-mate Dennis Warner, whose performance earned him third spot in the V55-59 age group.

Hannah Jarvis was the first Harwich lady home and her time of 23m 3s placed her as ninth woman overall.

The warm but windy conditions proved a barrier to personal best times for most. However, Amos Seddon and Ann Piercy were not to be denied.

Piercy shaved four seconds from her previous time to finish in 26m 25s and top the V60-64 age group, while Seddon claimed the biggest personal best of the day to take 47 seconds off his previous best in 24m 47s.

Other Harwich Runners in action at Colchester were Paul McClelland (24m 14s), Kieran Callaghan (24m 54s), Ali Bardell (28m 51s) and Angela Walton (32m 38s).

The highest-placing Harwich Runner on the day was Steve Hewes, at the Chelmsford event.

He finished fourth in 17m 25s and was first in his age group, the V40-45 category.

Ian Cannons took part in the South Manchester Parkrun, finishing 48th out of the 423 runners and fourth in his V40-45 category.

Richard Flutter and Elspeth Knott were among the 95 finishers at the Great Cornard event, in Sudbury.

Eager to conserve his energy for a ten-mile race the next day, Flutter had a relaxed run to finish fourth overall and first V45-49 in 18m 34s.

He looks set to break the 18-minute barrier soon, when he can fully focus on the distance.

Not to be outdone, Knott produced her fastest run on the course this season to place third woman overall in 22m 38s.

Richard Newman travelled to Woodford Green to take on the Roding Valley Half Marathon.

He completed the course in 1h 32m 41s to take 67th position.

In the Sidcup ten-mile race, Bill Haining finished 102nd overall and fifth in his age group (MV55) in a time of 1h 9m 51s.

Flutter also ran this British Masters Championship race, finishing 127th in 1h 12m 24s.

Meanwhile, up in Cheadle, near Manchester, Vicky McCrea took on a five-mile race, finishing 120th in a time of 42m 50s.
