HARWICH and Dovercourt Cricket Club are table-toppers again.

The Low Road side are riding high at the North Essex League division three summit after a thrilling one-run victory at home to rivals Chappel and Wakes Colne.

Chappel had started the day as leaders, with their hosts second.

However, those positions were reversed after a dramatic finale in a match played in a Twenty20 format.

Skipper Dom Gueizelar continued his amazing winning run since taking over as captain.

He inherited the role at the beginning of last season and, after losing his first game, has won every one since.

Gueizelar said: “It was a great victory for us and, more pleasing, it puts us back on top of the league.

“It was a great game of cricket and both teams played their part.

“The toss was important and losing that made it more testing, batting in the drizzle.

“However, I was more than pleased to post a respectable score at the midway stage.

“Chappel thought they had the game won midway through their innings, but I have all the faith in the world in my team.

“After the run-out of their captain, I knew we had it in the bag.

“Michael Griggs’ one over put the pressure back on them and when Amir Raza took a superb catch off the first ball of the last over, I knew it was going to be our day.”
