BUDDING Joe Harts have the chance to hone their skills at a new academy coming to Little Oakley.

The Carl Pentney Keeper Academy is starting up sessions on the Acorns’ new 3G pitch.

They will be jointly run by former Colchester United goalkeeper Pentney and Luke Tynan – the son of Oakley joint-manager Sean.

The academy sessions, for boys and girls of all ages and abilities, will begin on September 7 and then run every Monday thereafter.

Prior to that, there will be an open morning on August 30, from 10.30am until 12pm.

“We’re really excited about it,” said Tynan, a second year scholar with Ryman League premier division side Needham Market, who has had trials with Colchester, Ipswich Town and West Ham.

“Carl and I first met when I started going to his academy sessions in Colchester.

“It’s been a brilliant experience and really helped me improve my game.

“Now I’m looking forward to trying to pass on some of the things I’ve learnt and helping other youngsters develop.

“The academy is the first and only one in this area and it’s great to be able to make use of the fantastic new 3G pitch at Oakley.

“It’s a brilliant facility.”

Seventeen-year-old Tynan, who lives in Dovercourt, already has his level one coaching badge and is going for his level one goalkeeping badge in early September.

He hopes to break into Needham’s first team next season, having spent last year playing for the club’s reserves in the Thurlow Nunn League.

He has also represented Essex’s under-17s.
