THE annual Hammerton Cup match between Harwich and Dovercourt Golf Club and the Caravan Swindle team took place on Saturday.

With a large field, in scorching conditions, the golf club team managed a 5½-3½ victory.

The teams were captained by Danny Turner and Gus Hales and the badge of shame winner, for the third time, went to Zak Loughran, with 28 points.

In other Harwich results, Rob Warren won day one of the Club Championship silver round, with a score of 86-18c=68.

Sam Warren was second, with 87-17c=70.

On day two, Phil Davies took the honours, with 89-15c=74.

Graham Pomfrett was second, with 91-13c=78, and Kieren Brown third, with N/R-27c=N/R.

Harwich’s veterans took on the 7,000-yard challenge of The Essex Golf and Country Club course on Friday.

It was part of Ray Pryce’s Captain’s Day, which attracted a field of 27.

The day was won by Brian Hall, with 38 points.

Andy Leatherdale finished second, on countback, also with 38 points, and third place, again on countback, went to Barrie Wheatley, with 35.

The team prize wernt to Bryan Austin, Hall and Roger Dean, with 94 points.
