HARWICH Angling Club maintained their excellent form when they travelled to Pebmarsh for the second Essex Inter Club League division one match, hosted by Colchester.

They picked up 50 section points, finishing in second place.

They were just behind Maldon AS, who took first place with 51½ points.

CAPS A took third place with 46.

It was a good team performance, with everyone getting the best from their swims.

Paul Chambers (peg 45) and Barry Hickford (peg 60) both won their sections and picked up ten points each, with weights of 47lbs 11ozs and 24lbs 0ozs respectively.

Paul Rossington (peg 27) weighed in with 12lbs 2ozs and picked up nine points, Ged Spurgin (peg five) had 15lbs 1ozs, getting eight points, Rob Houlding (peg 34) had 10lbs 14ozs, for seven points, and Steve Palmer (peg 19) had 7lbs 2ozs, picking up six points.

This result keeps Harwich in first place in the league with 19 points, just two points ahead of CAPS A and three ahead of Maldon AS, in third.

They will be hoping to improve this in the next match which the club is hosting on Dock River, Harwich, on Sunday, September 6.

In the team knockout competition, Harwich got through to the next round after beating Does AC by three points.

They are now into the semi-finals.

The remaining three Harwich anglers left in the individual knockout competition before the start of the match all got through to the third round.

They were Rob Houlding, who beat B Woollcott, of Chelmsford Blue (peg six) by six points, Steve Palmer, who beat P Guerrier, of Chelmsford Red (peg 38) by two points, and Spurgin, who beat C Orrin, of Braintree (peg ten), by 1½ points.

In the individual results, Harwich had three anglers in the top ten.

Paul Chambers came in second place, Barry Hickford was fourth and Spurgin tenth.

Twelve members took part in Harwich Angling Club’s eighth evening sprint match, at Dock River.

Fourth place was a tie between Dan Longley and John Pettit, both with 1lb dead.

Narrowly ahead was Rob Houlding, with 1lb 1oz, and Con Kleity gained second, with 1lb 9oz 8drm.

However, squeezing another well-deserved win on the river was Ged Spurgin, with 2lb of mixed rudd and roach.
