LET’S go all out for the title!

Little Oakley’s joint assistant manager Shaun Tynan says the club have set their sights on being crowned Essex and Suffolk Border League champions.

The Acorns finished second in the premier division last season, finishing 14 points behind title winners West Bergholt.

And ahead of their curtain-raiser against Alresford Colne Rangers tomorrow, Tynan says the club are determined to go one better, in the 2015-16 campaign.

“Everyone’s really excited about the season starting,” said Tynan, who runs the side in tandem with Paul Sadler.

“We finished second last season and we want to go one better, this time around.

“We hope to be challenging and we want to do well in all of the competitions that we’re in.

“I think Coggeshall, Holland, Gas Rec and West Bergholt will all be up there challenging, too.

“But there’s no point in beating around the bush – we weren’t far away in finishing second last season and the next step for us is to win the title.”

Little Oakley have brought in the likes of defender Matt Stace, midfielder Steve Polley and goal king Jordan Heath this summer, while Jamie Beecham has also joined.

“We have some very good new signings coming in,” said Tynan, who was pleased with Little Oakley’s 4-0 win over Wickham Market in their final pre-season friendly.

“They’re all local lads and we’ve worked hard to get the squad together that we have.”

Tynan is expecting tomorrow’s opponents Alresford Colne Rangers to present a difficult challenge for his side, this weekend.

However, he insists it is important Little Oakley’s players concentrate on themselves rather than their opponents.

He said: “Alresford have had a vast amount of changes since last season.

“Their previous manager has gone to Langford and I’m sure their players will want to impress the new manager.

“It’ll be a tough test for us and we’ll respect the opposition but it’s all about our team and our attitude and you have to earn the right to play.”

Goalkeeper Glenn Morrison is suspended so Matt Windred will replace him between the sticks Tynan added: “Matt’s used to this standard of football and he’s more than capable of doing a good job for us.”
