DOVERCOURT enjoyed a convincing 6-2 victory at Wivenhoe to keep up the pressure on Premier League leaders Clacton.

Their top rink on the day was skipped by club captain David Payne, supported by Greg Bloss, Steve Day and Sid Ellmer, winning 36-11.

In the Stanford League, Dovercourt are having a difficult season and they lost 5-3 at home to Wivenhoe.

They won on one rink, losing and drawing on the other two.

Dovercourt sit three places off the bottom. The winning rink was skipped by Roy Petts, assisted by Chris Cook, Ray Sweeney and Jim Pottinger, with the score being 19-17.

The club had a good day at home to Brightlingsea, in the Windsor League, winning 8-2.

This game was played in sunshine throughout, which was a change from recent matches, which have had to be rearranged due to rain, with one being rearranged twice.

The score was three rinks to one, with the top rink skipped by Petts, assisted by Pottinger and Cook.

Petts, who joined Dovercourt from Stowmarket, has had a good first season with the club and quickly established himself as a skipper, playing in all three Premier, Stanford and Windsor Leagues.

Dovercourt visited Brantham for their annual friendly and the match could not have been closer.

Each side won two ends, with one drawn.

However, Brantham won by the overall score of 83-82.

This was an opportunity for bowlers to renew old rivalries and friendships and a pleasant afternoon was had by all.
