ON-SONG Little Oakley have fired out a message to their Essex and Suffolk Border League rivals.

That’s the defiant message from joint-manager Sean Tynan, following Tuesday’s AV Lee Trophy success against West Bergholt.

The Acorns won 2-0 at Colchester Garrison, thanks to Lewis Wood’s header and a Jordan Heath penalty.

And the silverware success made it three straight victories – a sequence that also includes Saturday’s 7-0 demolition of Tiptree Park in the Border League Knockout Cup.

Tynan believes the midweek win will give his players a huge psychological boost and send out a warning to other teams.

“I can’t begin to tell you how happy and positive I feel about the side,” he said.

“We always knew it was going to be tough against Bergholt.

“They’ve won their first three games, strolled to the title last season and only lost a couple of games along the way – both back in August.

“However, we worked so hard and played some excellent football.

“We were under the cosh a bit early on but stuck together and grew into the game.

“We’ve assembled a great squad and this was our first opportunity to show what we’re about and what we’re capable of.

“It was an early sign that we can mix it with the big boys and it was a massive result.”
