LITTLE Oakley’s footballers hit the goal trail – putting eight past hosts Earls Colne.
But while delighted to see his side win so comfortably, joint-boss Paul Sadler felt it was just as important to keep a clean sheet.
Jordan Heath smashed a hat-trick in the Essex and Suffolk Border League premier division contest and he was joined on the scoresheet by Sam Eldridge, Mark Palmer, Michael Palmer, Steve Polley and Matt Stace.
“After a tense affair the week before against Holland, it was nice for the players to be able to relax a bit and play some football,” said Sadler, who runs the side with Sean Tynan.
“Earls Colne have conceded heavily against other top teams in the league so it was important we followed suit with a comfortable win and solid performance.
“In saying that, while it was great to score eight goals, it was just as pleasing not to concede any as we’ve leaked goals in all but three matches so far this season.”
Oakley face what is likely to be a much tougher test at Coggeshall Town on Saturday.
“They’ll be looking for revenge after last season, when we got the better of them on three occasions, including the Border League Knockout Cup final.
“Coggeshall currently sit third in the league, so it’s important we make some ground on them in this fixture.”
Elsewhere, Harwich and Parkeston suffered a 4-0 defeat at Holland FC.
