LITTLE Oakley joint-boss Paul Sadler hailed another positive performance after seeing his side progress in the Essex Premier Cup.

They defeated Barnston AFC 3-0 in the second round, thanks to two goals from Trevor Lewis and one from Daryll Elmer.

Sadler said: “Since our last outing two weeks ago, three players have moved on to pastures new and we had another three regulars unavailable due to other commitments.

“To field a decent side and win away from home was a real credit to the club and the players involved.

“We have a very strong reserve squad and many of these were called upon for this match and they didn’t disappoint.

“Due to the changes it took some time to settle into the game and, during the first half, we rode our luck on two occasions.

“However, for the main, we dominated proceedings.

“Three-nil flattered the home side a bit as we had many chances and the luxury of being able to miss a penalty, but, all in all, it was a good, positive performance and nice to progress.”

Oakley now switch their attention to another cup competition.

They entertain Earls Colne in the Knockout Cup on Saturday (kick-off 1.30pm).

“Although we recently beat them 8-0 in a league encounter, we’ll be taking nothing for granted and expect our players to give 100 per cent work-rate, which will hopefully see us through to the next round.”
