HARWICH and Parkeston joint-boss John Fidgett took a trip down memory lane after finding this super picture among his football memorabilia.

It’s of his old Parkeston Railway side, who played in the Essex and Suffolk Border League premier division, and was taken at Hamilton Park during the 1982-83 season.

“I’ve kept so many of my old programmes and photos,” said Fidgett, who runs the Shrimpers first team along with Martin Warnes.

“I’ve been playing men’s football since I was 13 and I’ll be 60 in April.

“Football has been my life and it’s great to reminisce about the good times.

“When I start looking at all my old stuff, I find it hard to tear myself away and can easily lose a morning, afternoon or evening.

“I’ve learnt so much down the years and met so many great people – people I wouldn’t have met outside of football.” Former midfielder Fidgett, who also played for Harwich and Clacton Town, hung up his boots at the age of 40 but was tempted out of retirement in his mid-50s, when helping to run Little Oakley Reserves.

He can name all the players in the picture.

In the back row, from left, are Neil Walker, current Harwich chairman Tony Armstrong, Phil Ostler, player-manager Colin Wallace, Barry Neale, Malcolm Pearce, Andrew Wallace, Billy Tyrell and chairman Mick Felgate senior.

In the front row are groundsman John Wildney, Graham Fletcher, Fidgett himself, Shaun Singh, Mick Felgate junior, Glen Wallace and Maurice Tyrell.
