MISTLEY Rugby Club enjoyed a dramatic victory in their final Eastern Counties League division two south fixture, against Ipswich Magpies.
Regardless of the result, they were already assured of a mid-table finish.
In the first game between the sides, the Furze Hill team had been hammered 65-0.
However, they went into Saturday’s contest in confident mood, having only been pipped in the dying seconds in their last match against Sudbury, and eventually won 18-16.
Steven Betts, Mistley’s director of rugby, said it was an excellent end-of-season victory which was down to a change of attitude in the second half of the season.
He also praised the Mistley Marauders who, despite losing 38-3 at Bury St Edmunds’ fourths, had fulfilled every fixtures in the season and never let their heads drop.
This weekend, The Marauders play a friendly at home to Clacton on Saturday; Kick-off is at 2.30pm. The President’s Day match is on April 30, at 2pm.
