THE 44th Harwich Parkrun attracted 100 runners on Saturday morning.

There were 14 first-timers and 39 personal bests (PBs).

Graeme Knott, of Harwich Runners, came back first with a PB time of 17 minutes and 37 seconds and a huge lead over second place.

It was the third time he had run at Harwich and the third time he had won.

Fellow club member Simon Harrison was in second place, with a time of 18m 28s, and third home was Terry Knightley, of Ilford AC, with a new PB of 18m 41s.

Nicola Pyle, of the Springfield Striders, was first lady back with a time of 22m 26s.

In second was Claire Gooding Matthews, of Harwich Runners, with a PB time of 22m 59s, and in third was Antoinette Wilson, of Great Bentley Running Club, in 24m 32s.

Harwich Parkrun regular Malcolm Jarvis, of Great Bentley RC, had his 100th Parkrun.

Meanwhile, new Harwich member Lian Meachen improved her time by two minutes, with a PB of 33m 58s.

Katherine Pleace improved her time by over a minute with a PB of 31m 39s.

Mila Burls, also of Harwich Runners, in her second Parkrun, got a PB of 31m 30s - an incredible five minutes quicker than her last run.

Junior member Ethan Edmonds, also in his second Parkrun, finished 10th in a PB time of 20m 48s.

Other club members to achieve PBs were Scott Luckey, 20m 55s, Andy Farthing, 22m 49s, Claire Bransby, 24m 39s, and Sarah Roxby Clarke, 33m 18s.

Valentina Burley continues to improve.

She did her first-ever run on January 1 in 30m 29s and this week her time was 27m 8s. Another PB.

Sunday saw the latest edition of the ever-popular Woodbridge 10km race.

With 675 finishers, the undulating round-the-town event is an attractive fixture on the race calendar.

This year, just one Harwich Runner took part and that was Steven Kent.

His time of 45m 20s placed him 136th overall.

Three club members ventured into the world of track racing, two for the first time.

Rob Reason and Richard Flutter took part in the Essex Track Championships, at Chelmsford.

Flutter competed in the 1,500m and finished tenth in 5m 9s.

They then both took part in the 5,000m race.

Reason finished ninth in 16m 38s and Flutter 16th in 18m 28s.

Bill Haining travelled to Luton to take part in the Eastern Vets Track Championships.

Although he has raced over other distances on the track, it was his first-ever track 5,000m race, which he finished in 20m 19s, winning his age category - V60.
