HARWICH and Dovercourt skipper Sam Felgate says the club have their sights set on promotion following their superb start to the season.

The buoyant Low Road outfit are sitting pretty at the top of Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division five, after winning six of their opening seven matches.

They travel to play Eight Ash Green tomorrow, hoping to extend their 15-point lead at the top of the table.

Felgate said: "It's really exciting.

"The goal at the club for a long time has been promotion.

"Last year we consolidated but this year, it's about challenging the top three to go up and making sure that we have the consistency needed to do that.

"We're enjoying our cricket and that has a snowball effect.

"It's very early days and we don't want to get carried away but promotion has to be our ambition."

Harwich continued their fine unbeaten form after claiming 20 points following a thrilling five-run win over Ipswich II, last weekend.

Tommy Armstrong claimed a double wicket maiden in a dramatic final over of the match to clinch their victory.

Batting first, Adeel Abbas top-scored with 87 in Harwich's total of 167.

"We felt that we could score runs but the top order didn't perform like we would have hoped," said Felgate.

"But Adeel struck a few runs on the board and got us out of trouble.

"It was a disappointing batting performance but a really good performance by Adeel."

Abbas then took 4-38 but it looked like Ipswich might claim victory, until Armstrong saved the day.

"We came in thinking that it was enough to defend with our bowlers, with the form that they're in," added Felgate.

"We did well and it would be harsh to attribute our success to just one bowler.

"Adeel did well and so did Steve Bushell and Mark Davies but we had almost given up the chase.

"They needed five or six runs off the final over so we decided to put a slower bowler in Tommy Armstrong on.

"He ended up bowling a double wicket maiden in the last over and the way that he held his nerve was outstanding.

"It just goes to show the kind of strength in depth that we have."
