CLACTON Golf Club's seniors were victorious in their match against Tendring neighbours Harwich and Dovercourt.

Tony Burnside's side won by 5½ matches to 2½.

The teams will meet again at Harwich on September 16, for the Cyril Rand Memorial Trophy.

Results: Tony Burnside and Rick Hale won 2&1 against Jim Brown and Bryan Austin, Derek Woodrow and John Willson won two-up against Neil Howells and Rod Richardson, Malcolm Pitcher and Peter Wiggins won 6&5 against Steve Barker and Brian Hindley, Alan Price and Ken Hilton halved with Chris Day and Alan Scott, Robert Gillespie and John Fisher won 6&4 against Ken Stapleton and Bernie Burrows, Doug Nichols and Bill Clarke won 2&1 against Jeff Murray and Malcolm Harman, vice-captain John Kemp and Brian Clark won one-up against Sean O'Hara and Charles Dennis and Bill Highstead and John Wacker lost 3&2 against Ron Keen and Mike Griggs.

Meanwhile, Clacton captain Nick Smith and his team of vice-captain Jeff Sinnott, Clayton Jeffrey, Steve James, Steve Scott, Jiwan Rai, Bob Davidson, Ronnie Miller, Nick Apps, Steve Tunnell, Dave Lee, Alf Smith, John Moore, Malcolm Pitcher, Kevin Hill, Scott Smith, Darin Starling, Fred Allerton, Derek Woodrow and Ray Beyerman travelled to Maldon for the away section of the Pisa Cup.

After recently winning the cup at Clacton, Smith told his team what was expected as his opposite number had said he wanted the cup back at Maldon.

The course should have provided home advantage, but Clacton responded to the challenge, winning the match and the cup 6-4.

Clacton's ladies travelled to Frinton to play the first match in this year’s Essex County Harris Bowl.

The Clacton team of team captain Sonja Strutt, ladies' captain Gilly Cullen, Denise Pink, Di Kedge and Angela Barratt fought hard against a very strong opposition, but home advantage was evident and they lost a closely-fought match 3-2.

Clacton's ladies played their June Medal and the winner was Kedge, returning 97-20-77.

In second was Fiona Cope, with 95-14-81, on countback from third-placed Barratt, with 107-26-81, on countback from Jennie Corbyn, in fourth, with 102-21-81.

Clacton's juniors played their June stableford and the winner was Josh Bethell, with 35 stableford points, on countback from second-placed junior captain Riley Faulkner.

In third place was Wilf Elliott, with 34.

Clacton members were saddened to hear of the death of very popular member Ray Caley.

Ray had been a member for 46 years, having joined in 1970.

During his time with Clacton, he won many events and was always a good friend to all. He will be sadly missed.
