MISTLEY Cricket Club had certainly the most eye-catching result in the latest round of top flight games in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.

The Swans stunned division one leaders Mildenhall and put a spanner in their title-chasing works with a superb 52-run win at New Road.

Mistley had last posted a win on June 4, while their Suffolk visitors had lost just once before all season, but a superb bowling display, led by Timothy Scott's five-wicket haul, saw Danny Goff's men upset the form books.

At the halfway stage, the odds would have favoured Mildenhall, though, after Mistley were all out for 186.

Graeme Butcher and Jarryd Walsh got the hosts off to a steady start, before Walsh was first to depart for 14, but James Scott joined Butcher and they took the score on to 76 to build a decent platform.

That brought Ben Allday to the crease and even though wickets started to fall at the other end, he kept the scoring rate up with an innings of 47 that helped give the Swans' bowlers something to defend.

And defend it they did.

Timothy Scott struck early to remove Mildenhall opener Joe Reed with the score on just six and while the visitors tried to rebuild, the Mistley bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals to ensure there was always run-rate pressure.

The Mildenhall middle order just couldn't cope with that pressure, with Ian Morton taking three wickets for 38 runs and Jason Pembroke two for 25, while the safe hands of Walsh accounted for a quartet of catches.

So when Timothy Scott completed his figures of five for 40 with the wicket of Edward Finnis, Mistley wrapped up a memorable victory.

Timothy Scott's haul has taken his season's tally to 27 and lifted him to the top of the leading division one wicket-takers' chart.

Mistley will look to build on their success when they head to Frinton seconds tomorrow.
