CLUB members triumphed as Harwich Runners staged their weekly park run.

The event was part of the I Am Team GB initiative, which featured thousands of fun, free events across the country and was sponsored by The National Lottery and ITV.

A total of 118 people walked, jogged or ran the five kilometres around Dovercourt Park and along the seafront, whilst many more supported those taking part.

Harwich Runners had 28 members compete and first male and female finishers were both club members.

First male was Mark Lloyd in 18 minutes 14 seconds and for the third week in a row, Elspeth Knott was first female home in 24m 10s.

The strong wind on the seafront meant most runners’ times were slower than usual.

One of only a handful of people to achieve a personal best (PB) was Jez Downs.

Downs started running park runs last August and his best then was 31m 26s.

Since then, he has set a PB every month and is now running at 25m 09s, which is quite an improvement.

Richard Flutter returned to Great Cornard, his favourite Parkrun venue.

Of the 95 runners that took part, Flutter was eight in 18m 54s.

The annual Essex Way relay race takes place this Sunday.

Teams from all over the county will set out from Epping Station at 8am, finishing between 6-7pm at the Harwich lighthouse.

Harwich Runners have entered two teams this year.

The 81 miles is split into ten stages ranging in distance from five to 11 miles, with one team member running one stage each.
