THE last two unbeaten sides in the Thurlow Nunn League premier division went head-to-head as WIVENHOE TOWN played host to Gorleston.

However, it was the visitors who left with their proud status firmly intact after a comprehensive 5-0 victory at the Maple Tree Cars Stadium.

Gorleston broke the deadlock after an effort came back off the post and was converted.

The second followed in similar circumstances before a third goal was added from the penalty spot, after a foul by Tim Dennis.

Gorleston had a goal ruled out for offside before adding another via a deflected effort.

They then notched their fifth thanks to a brilliant long-range effort into the side of the net.

Wivenhoe will hope to bounce back when they head to Hadleigh United on Tuesday night.

Elsewhere, FC CLACTON’S win-less start to the season continued as they slumped to a 4-0 defeat at Fakenham Town.

Three of the goals came in the second half.

The Seasiders have now lost all seven of their league matches so far and have a goal difference of -30.

BRANTHAM ATHLETIC were back on their travels after three straight home games but lost 3-2 at Newmarket Town.

Division one leaders COGGESHALL TOWN won again, this time 3-1 at second-from-bottom Debenham LC.

They have now won six of their seven matches and have a three-point lead over Framlingham and Diss.

HOLLAND FC also put three more points on the board, thrashing Team Bury 6-0 at the Rush Green Bowl.

Terry Rymer (three), Billy Wales and Steve Eaton scored their goals.

BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES started the weekend with a 2-0 victory at home to AFC Sudbury Reserves on Friday night.
